Verification of Employment and Education
For the November 2008 exam and going forward, APA staff will not consider requests for exceptions or extensions of any deadline. Please ensure that applicants know that all verification documentation must arrive at APA’s office in Washington, D.C. by the deadline. Please note that faxes are not accepted for applications or verification documents.
Employment Verification
AICP applicants will need to send a letter from each employer listed in their application verifying their work as a professional planner. The signed letter, on company or department letterhead, should come from either an immediate supervisor, principal of the firm, or from the human resource department.
The letter should include their name, position, title, dates of employment and a brief summary of their work responsibilities. The name, title and phone number of the letter writer should also be noted. We must receive all employer verification letters at the AICP Washington, D.C. office no later than three weeks after submission of the Determination of Eligibility Application.
For applicants who own their own firm or work as a consultant, they must provide both client and project lists, for their employment verification. Additionally, they must show the start and end dates for projects, brief summaries of their work responsibilities, and contact information for their clients.
Education Verification
Applicants must send confirmation for every degree listed in their application. Acceptable education verification are: an official transcript, letter from school dean confirming that degree was received, or a notarized photocopy of diploma.
Reporting CM Credits
Please remind AICP members that they retain ultimate control of their personal CM log. There is no limit on when a member can log credits for activities as long as it is done so within their CM reporting period. We encourage members to add/remove sessions earned during the current reporting period by visiting the CM online CM log at http://www.planning.org/cm/foraicpmembers.htm
Please note: The AICP member webpage provides the opportunity to report CM credits, find upcoming CM events and view all CM providers.
Receiving CM Credits for Authoring
AICP members may earn CM credit for the publication of an article in a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. The amount of credit is 8 hours per article. Authoring cannot exceed 50% of required CM credits. To ensure the standard of double-blind, peer-reviewed is met, APA/AICP will conduct audits of a percentage. Members will be able to log credits for authoring when the redesigned CM website becomes available later this fall. Until then, members should keep record in a personal log. We will provide more information as it becomes available later this summer.
Receiving CM Credits for Roundtable Discussions
Roundtable discussions are eligible for CM credit. The focus of roundtable content should be specifically delineated to define relevant topics that meet CM eligibility criteria.
Upcoming Professional Development Opportunities
With another successful round of Planners Training Service (PTS) workshops having taken place in Chicago this month, our next stop will take place in Atlanta, GA on November 12-15. We will offer workshops on the following topics: Complete Streets, Urban Design, Sustainable Zoning and Development Controls, and Energy and Climate Change.
